What you will need:
-Lots of your dogs FAVOURITE treats
-Cotton balls or gauze (lots)
-Ear cleaner, one that is reputable, preferably recommended by your Veterinarian
- Start off by giving your dog a few treats (if you have a nervous dog then get an assistant to continuously offer your pup small amounts of treats throughout the process)
- Wet a cotton ball in ear cleaner
- Place the cotton ball on your finger and place it down the ear canal until you feel resistance
- Once you have finished with the first cotton ball, massage the base of the ear canal to loosen up any debris stuck at the bottom of the ear
- Let your dog shake their head whenever possible, this will also help bring the debris from the lower ear to the surface
- Wipe from the inside out, and repeat steps 2 & 3 until your cotton comes out of the ear clean
- Once the canal is cleaned, wet another cotton ball and start cleaning all of the little crevices on the pinna (inside flap of the ear)
- Always end on a positive note by giving your dog a treat
*If you noticed ALOT of debris or any blood, stop what you are doing and call your Veterinarian, it is likely that your dog has an infection and should be cleaned and treated by a professional*
